Mr Bouquet and I are hosting a New Years Eve party. It’s like second nature these days, it’ll be the third one I’ve held in the last four years… If it wasn’t for the fact we make a seriously mean punch I’d wonder if our guests send their RSVP in anticipation of us opening some of the good stuff. Au contraire mes amies, it’s a house party, there’ll be wide spread memory loss before midnight so what’s the point? And the clear up the next morning is made much less painful at the sight of that bottle of Bollinger still intact on the wine rack. Trust me.
New Years day is typically greeted with a headache, a blur of take-aways, recycling bags and forfeits for those who break their resolutions before the day is out. I only made one last year; to get married. Not in a psycho drag-my-boyfriend-down-the-aisle sort of way, but being newly engaged at the time the thought of actually signing the register back then was still rather daunting. Looking back now getting married wasn’t the only achievement of 2011. It also saw the launch of ‘My Wine Friend‘ the iphone app, hosting wine tastings, getting published in a book for the second time (!) and talking wine on radio stations around the country. In fact 2011 is going to be a tough act to follow….
One thing I do know is that the future of my website and everything chez Miss Bouquet wouldn’t be possible without you lot. So before you warm up your vocal cords for a harmony of Auld Lang Syne, wherever you are on the 31st December set a reminder on your phone to download My Wine Friend from the app store free of charge for one day only! It’s my way of saying thank you for all your support in 2011 and because I’d like you to start your year off with a resolution that you will actually keep… to drink wine, to drink better wine, to remember the wines you’ve loved and the ones you’ve loathed.
Use it on the 31st December and make a resolution to continue to do so throughout 2012. It’ll be the best Christmas present you’ve been given this year, and it’ll work harder for you than any hangover cure could to remove the pain of seeing that bottle laying empty and helplessly in a haze of recycle bags the morning after the night before.
