Friday this week is officially Sauvignon Blanc day. Who knew?! As if we needed another excuse to open some decent and refreshing wine on a Friday! Here are my top picks from the latest releases from the Cooperative Food so you can be super Savvy this weekend….

Truly Irresistable Sauvignon Blanc 2013, Leyda Valley, Chile, £6.99
When there’s Sauvignon blanc as good as this for £6.99 it feels almost pointless to bother mentioning any others. This one from Leyda Valley in Chile not only punches above its weight in the price department but looks the piece too with a label so floaty it would be at home in a designers sketch pad. Flavour wise it crams all the best things about Sauvignon Blanc from around the world into one glass. It’s grassy, with green melon, lemon curd and gooseberry characters and it’s full but fresh too. And it’s just won Silver at the International Wine Challenge 2014. Stocks may not last long….
Peter Yealands Sauvignon Blanc 2013, Marlborough, NZ, £9.99
If you think Sauvignon Blanc from NZ is where it’s at then this one has your name on it. Grassy notes, passion fruit and elderflower express themselves throughout and finish with an intriguingly moreish gooseberry fool creaminess on the finish.
Clos Floridene Graves Blanc 2012, Bordeaux, £17.99
For a fancy-pants Sauvignon Blanc blend look no further than this white from Bordeaux. It’s a seriously sophisticated style of Savvy that’s worth thinking about who you serve it to and how. It’s rammed with flavour and texture and to experience it fully you’ll want it lightly chilled not cold. Apricot, mandarins and over ripe papaya characters create a velvety texture that’s intense but fresh. A challenging but frankly awesome wine. Expensive yes, but treat yourself, it’s Sauvignon Blanc day!
