Winter Warmer

202Introducing Mrs H:

Now that the heating is on, the winter wardrobe is out and the fridge is stocked with soup I need to seriously start thinking about my wine selection. Since the clocks went back and winter was officially announced the summer spritzers and chilled bottles of rosé are a distant memory; its time to turn my attention to rich reds.

I started this seasonal change when I invited Miss Bouquet and Clarky for dinner to feed their colds. I decided to treat them to some French classics, after the obligatory Champagne aperitif I served Boeuf Bourguignon, which by definition implies copious amounts of red wine. We not only managed to polish off the wine infused meal but several bottles of Miss Bouquet’s finest Bordeaux. Yum.

I continued my taste of the dark side by spreading my winter cheer to work colleagues and clients. At dinner with them the other day at L’Escargot, my favourite French restaurant in London, I was in charge of the wine list and in keeping with my French theme ordered the Chateau Montaiguillon, Montagne – Saint Emilion 2005. Everyone around the table loved the choice and the bottles kept flowing.

My final winter warmer transformation occurred at Clarky’s post fireworks gathering, where divine bangers and mash were served with free flowing mulled wine. It was the perfect welcome to the winter season.

As winter draws on and I continue my discovery of rich red wines I’ve already started to wonder which wines Santa will be leaving me under the tree!!

With thanks to Mrs H, a very good friend of Miss B, for agreeing to make her writing debut on
